The Career Studies Certificate in Diesel Repair and Heavy Equipment Operations provides a balance between diesel mechanics and using heavy equipment. Diesel power mechanics are involved with those machines commonly found in highway construction and in surface mine operations. Learn Utilizing a blend of classroom and real-life hands-on lab-based instruction, participants will earn a mix of valuable nationally recognized in-demand American Service Excellence® (ASE) and Snap-On® certifications.
Program Requirements:
The Diesel Repair and Heavy Equipment Operations program is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in the diesel technology and heavy equipment industries. This hands-on, skills-based program provides students with the theoretical knowledge and practical experience necessary to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel-powered vehicles and heavy machinery used in construction, transportation, and other industrial settings.
Students in this program will complete coursework and lab experiences in the following core areas:
- Basic Diesel Engine Systems - Introduction to diesel engine design, operation, and maintenance, including fuel systems and emission controls.
- Electrical Systems - Study of electrical theory as applied to diesel vehicles, including wiring, charging, starting, and electronic control systems.
- Medium and Heavy-Duty Truck Brake Systems - In-depth instruction in air and hydraulic brake systems, inspection, diagnostics, and compliance with safety standards.
- Diesel Power Trains and Suspension - Covers manual and automatic transmissions, differentials, drivetrains, and suspension systems used in medium- and heavy-duty vehicles.
- Diesel Mechanics - Broad coverage of mechanical systems with a focus on preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repair procedures across a variety of diesel platforms.
Graduates of the program will be prepared to pursue careers as diesel technicians, maintenance mechanics, and related roles in construction, transportation, mining, agriculture, and public works industries.
